A scene from the Spring Choral Music Show.

Music and dance entertained the audiences of the Spring Choral Music Show at the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre, April 18-20. The Valley Connection Show Choir, the MVC Repertory Dance Ensemble, and the MVC Concert Choir were in sterling form, under the direction of Diana Malan and Janie Morgan with technical direction by Jay Rozema, costume design by Dyann Rozema, and stage management by Harold Hynick. And on Friday evening, music and dance alum came to the stage to perform a special rendition of “Seasons of Love” from the play “Rent.”

The Valley Connection Show Choir performed an exuberant range of numbers, from “I’ve Got the Music In Me” to “I Believe I Can Fly.” The MVC Repertory Dance Ensemble was in dazzling motion to the tunes, including a high-energy tribute to Michael Jackson songs. The MVC Concert Choir beautifully performed “Benedictus,” “Fields of Gold,” and “Lean On Me/We Shall Overcome.”

Special segments of the choral show featured the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and a musical celebration of Stephen Schwartz songs, including “Day by Day” from “Godspell” and the humorous “Popular” featuring student singers Yukari Sato and Ariana Stephens. Singers Amelia Fizer, Amy Charles, Sam Spurgin, and Ryan Martin sang “How Do You Keep the Music Playing/My Funny Valentine, with Fizer, Charles, and Spurgin joined by Diana Malan for a nice, smooth rendition of “Nice ‘n Easy.”

Alum who returned to the stage for a special song included Landon Alexander, Catherine (Hanna) Armbruster, Nicole (Hawkins) Beasley, Tiffany Bergman, Christine (Petri) Centeno, Marylyn Gwatiringa, Genie (Banner) Haggard, Jenny (Bell) Mills, Emilee Murphree, Amanda O’Brien, Lacey Preston, Amanda Swaim, and Katie Zufall. They presented a bouquet of flowers to music director Diana Malan. (Watch for a photo of the group of alums with a story about their return in an upcoming post on the Delta website.)
