Marshall, Mo. (June 18, 2012)— The Missouri Valley College men’s rodeo team finished in third place overall at the 2012 College National Finals Rodeo held in Casper, Wyo. The Vikings finished with 530 total points. MVC senior Tanner Aus (Granite Falls, Minn.) finished as the national champion cowboy in the bareback competition in which 38 student-athletes competed.
“This was a longtime coming for Tanner,” said MVC Head Rodeo Coach Ken Mason. “He finished third at the CNFR as a sophomore and second as a junior, so it was great for him to win the event this year.”
Two other Vikings competed in the final round at the CNFR. MVC senior Will Crain (Farina, Ill.) finished third in the bull riding competition and senior Mason Ormesher (Valentine, Neb.) finished as the fifth place bull rider.
Other Vikings who represented the MVC rodeo team at the National competition were junior Jordan Corrigan (Toddville, Iowa), saddle bronc riding; sophomore Hunter Lewis (Springdale, Ark.), steer wrestling; sophomore Ben Runyon (Tallula, Ill.), team roping (header); junior Korah Agre (Lindstrom, Minn.), breakaway roping; junior Lauren Struxness (Appleton, Minn.), breakaway roping, and senior Cody Metsker Taylorville, Ill.), steer wrestling.
“This is a great accomplishment for Missouri Valley rodeo,” Mason said. “It’s great that these kids were able to compete at the College National Finals Rodeo against division one schools. We have finished in the top four overall each of the past four years, that’s quite an accomplishment. It’s just amazing to see how successful our kids have been. We are truly blessed.”
The Vikings are coached by Ken Mason and assisted by Kari Mason and Krista Staley.
