MVC alum Katie Kimble spoke to a Mass Communication class Friday about work in the TV industry.

Kimble, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication in 2010, is currently employed as the technical director for the evening news shows at KMVT television station in Twin Falls, Idaho. Kimble’s work schedule is from 4 p.m. to midnight, with four news programs to direct. The TV station has affiliations with CBS and Fox. Kimble also works with the station’s website.

Kimble talked to students about the duties of her job, the experience that she gained in media production at MVC that helped her achieve the TV position, the benefit of adding diverse media work in resume-building, and some stories about working at a TV station. Students asked a variety of questions.

Coming back to visit during the MVC Stampede Rodeo, Kimble continues to participate in rodeos in the West in barrel racing, team roping, goat tying, and break-away roping. Kimble, who is originally from Illinois, was on the MVC rodeo team for her college career and was an exceptional student in all areas (TV, radio, and newspaper) of Mass Communication. She was able to visit with her former Mass Comm instructors Ken Kujawa and David Roberts.

Roberts said that Kimble was a great student, willing to take on challenges, and always impressive in producing top-quality work. He added that she was the student who put together the photo collage for the Viking “V” logo that was turned into a poster. The posters can be seen on office doors, in the cafeteria, on the window of the Registrar’s Office, and other campus places.

A number of her awards in media work are displayed on the walls in the Ferguson top floor hallway.
