Some students have their own car, own iPod, or even their own house. But ever had your own radio show? Mass Communication students on the Missouri Valley campus host their own radio shows on 91.7 “The V” KMVC Marshall. Under the direction of Ken Kujawa, director of Viking Sports Network and radio station, students gain experience of doing on-air shifts.
Senior Tyrone Ritter is one of the four commentators on “KMVC Sports Talk.” Ritter and his co-hosts talk about local sports, Missouri Valley sports, St. Louis Rams, the Cardinals, the Chiefs, hockey and other hot topics involving sports, he said.
“I think it is very important to take it seriously. You have to work to get better,” Kujawa said. Kujawa said the radio station is an open door when you put work into it. “What you do with the opportunity is up to you,” he added.
Talking about not only sports, but the history of sports is what junior Brent Kalwei enjoys the most about “KMVC Sports Talk.” Kalwei added, “It’s important to know what got us here, and how sports evolved over time.” Other hosts involved in “KMVC Sports Talk” is sophomore James O’Sullivan and senior Andrew Bridges. “KMVC Sports Talk” comes on at 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Senior Jake Coleman hosts “MVC After Dark” with new and old R&B and Hip-hop on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 p.m. and senior LeKyndra Duncan hosts “Kick’n It With Kyn” with old and new R&B on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8 p.m. on KMVC radio and streams online at 9 p.m. Both Jake and LeKyndra have Facebook pages for their radio shows.
