Two men were injured Thursday night (Nov. 15) in a one-car crash just outside of Marshall city limits on South Lincoln Avenue, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Garrett R. Hill, 20, of Union, suffered serious injuries, and Jacob V. Pederson, 20, of San Jose, Calif., suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken by Saline County Ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on the gravel portion of the street just south of the Missouri Valley College rodeo team residence.

The 2000 Chevrolet was traveling southbound when it went off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, then struck a utility pole with enough force to sever the top from the pole, troopers said.

One occupant was temporarily trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by Marshall firefighters.

The car was driven by Zachary J. Bumstead, 19, of St. Peters. No injuries were listed in the MSHP report for him.

All three occupants of the car were wearing safety devices, troopers said.

Saline County sheriff’s deputies, Marshall police, and Missouri Valley College security officers assisted at the scene.
