Story by Tyrone Ritter

Pedro Franco, a 2012 graduate of Missouri Valley College, has achieved a lifelong dream. He wanted to get his education and play sports.

“In Brazil, you either do one or the other.” Franco said. “I came to America to do both.”

While at MVC, Franco played soccer and earned a double major in Accounting and Finance.

With one dream fulfilled, he set out to accomplish the other. He traveled to Kansas City, Mo., and tried out for coaches and owners at the Major Indoor Soccer League combine.

The Rochester Lancers of Rochester, N.Y., picked him to play for their team. When he played his first game with the team, he had done something that so many haven’t.

“Everybody in Brazil wants to be a professional soccer player,” Franco said. The Lancers and other MISL teams can be watched on MISLUNATION.COM.

(Updated note about Pedro from Andrew Pulverenti, director of MVC Sports Information: The Lancers will be playing the Missouri Comets at the Independence Events Center in Independence, Mo., Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:35 p.m. To welcome Pedro back to Missouri, a special ticket rate has been set for those wanting to see him play. The group ticket price has been set at $10. For more information on tickets, contact Brent Garrison with the Missouri Comets at 855-522-7362. Franco scored his first goal of the season against the Missouri Comets in a game played in Rochester, N.Y. on Dec. 1, and has played in five of the team’s games this season.)
