The MVC Division of Fine Arts presents “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” with rock-and-roll songs and dance, starting tonight (Feb. 13) and running through Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eckilson-Mabee Theater.

The cast includes Sabrina Bartley, Sydney Bradford, Jesse Carpenter, Ron Curtis, Rachel LaGrou, Markeith Robinson, Bradford Scott, Devin Walker, Justin Weathers, Megan Weathers, and Rebecca Whitsett. The band members are Brooke Bouleware, Joe Graham, Ramone Hall, Ryan Martin, and Diana Malan.

The songs of Leiber and Stoller include “Ruby, Ruby,” “Kansas City,” “Poison Ivy,” “On Broadway,” “Teach Me How to Shimmy,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Stand By Me,” and many others.

Co-directors are Diana Malan, also serving as musical director, and Janie Morgan, also serving as choreographer. Costume designer is Dyann Rozema, scenery and sound designer is Jay Rozema, lighting director is Catie Combs, dance captain is Rebecca Whitsett, and stage manager is Bailey Yeater.

    Awesome show. The kids do a great job singing, dancing, and above all else having fun.

    Wow! I go the theatre to enjoy a show and come away with a smile. This really made me smile. Each and everyone of these students did a great job – the singing, the dancing, the lighting, the costumes, the sound and set, the back stage crew, the band and last, but not least, the directors who guided this wonderful production. Your hard work paid off.
