MVC Mass Communication major Gabriel Santos happened to be shopping at the Dollar Tree store in Marshall on Wednesday, Feb. 6, when a car drove through a plate glass window and injured a customer.

Santos took a photo with his cell phone of the damage (shown above) and described the event this way: “It was really unexpected. I was shopping, choosing some toothpaste, and suddenly I heard a big noise and sound of glass falling everywhere. Then I saw a woman screaming “Mom!” desperately. First, I thought that the woman in the car was her mother, but when I looked down, there was a lady laying on the floor, holding her legs and they were bleeding. Everything was pretty shocking, and happened very fast.”

A front-page story by Eric Crump  in the Marshall Democrat-News noted that an elderly woman had driven a white PT Cruiser through the front window. The driver, Avon Hudson of Bosworth, was shaken up but not injured and said that it was her first traffic accident in her 89 years, according to the newspaper. The woman who was injured was reportedly struck by a display stand when the car came through the window, according to the newspaper.
