Five theatre majors from Missouri Valley College traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana, this past week to participate in Region VI of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

Two individuals received regional honors for their work.  Catie Combs received the Don Childs Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Award for her lighting design of “Heads” by E.M. Lewis.  The award comes with a tuition grant and expenses for one week at the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas this summer.  Crystal Mann was recognized as a finalist in the regional Musical Theatre Initiative auditions.

Crystal also participated as a scene partner for Thomas Andrew Waller during the Irene Ryan Scholarship auditions.  Thomas was nominated for the audition based on his performance in “Heads” at Missouri Valley. Thomas and Samantha Hill also had the opportunity to present a scene from “Heads” which was invited to the festival as part of the Showcase of Invited Scenes. Sulma Caballero also attended the festival where she helped facilitate Harold Hynick’s improvisation workshop.

Theatre students traveled with Harold Hynick, assistant professor of Theatre, to the festival.
