Missouri Valley College’s football team is getting ready for another season. They start the year as the second ranked team in the nation. They will play their first game September 14 on the road against Ottawa University.
Head Football Coach Paul Troth said Ottawa will be a challenge. “We were able to win the game last year so now we have to go to their place and it was the last game they played last year, were expecting a extremely tough game,” Troth said.
The Vikings look to repeat as conference champions and more after missing out on the national championship game last season.
Returning starter Phillip Fowler, a senior defensive back, wants to make it all the way this year. “There is only one thing to do and go ahead and play in Rome the national championship game,” Fowler said.
MVC has six returning starters on the offense, including junior Quarterback Bruce Reyes who threw 23 touchdown passes, and six starters back on defense, highlighted by senior Tyler Davis a defensive back and kick returner. Davis is the reigning conference defensive player of the year. Ty Phillips is also back the junior defensive lineman led the NAIA in sacks with 19.
With these talented players, the Vikings have experience and leadership that will give them a chance to make it to Georgia.
