The Missouri Valley Women’s varsity soccer team defeated the NCAA II McKendree University team 2-0 at MVC’s home field Thursday evening

Both teams were playing neck-and-neck until the MVC Vikings scored their first goal before halftime. Viking Coach Drew Hawkins said, “Our mind-set was to come in and set the tone early, keep possession of the game, and take advantage of opportunities.”

In the second half of the game, McKendree University lost two players on the field because of red cards. Minutes later, MVC also lost two players because of red cards. Both teams were left to finish the game with nine players on the field.  Andrea Garcia, a freshman majoring in Athletic Training and Psychology from Toledo, Spain, said, “We have to talk on the field, we have to be calm.” Hawkins said, “We have more dynamic players this year than last year.”

The Women’s season record after Thursday’s games is 2-1-1. The MVC Women’s soccer team next game will be against Park University on Sept. 7 in Parkville, Mo.,  at 1 p.m. The next home game will be live-streamed against Columbia College at MVC, game time at 6 p.m.
