The 10th-ranked men’s soccer team beat Ottawa University 1-0, Tuesday night, at Gregg Mitchell Field.

The lone goal of the night was scored in the 25th minute by sophomore midfielder Carlos Munar.

Senior goalkeeper Josh Wells recorded his six shutout of the year. He has back-to-back shutouts after blanking Avila University in the conference opener on September 28.

After the match, Wells spoke about his defense performance.

“At the moment I’m just seeing the ball like a beach ball. I feel like I’m going to save every shot,” Wells said.

According to DakStats the official stat tracker of the NAIA, Missouri Valley is second in shutouts. They have recorded six in 10 matches.

Junior defensemen Bernardo Diaz said the team is playing better than expected.

“I think we are a little above our expectation. We want to win the conference and go to the national championship; we are on our way to do that,” Diaz said.

Missouri Valley’s record is 8-1-1. The next opponent for the Vikings will be the No. 7 ranked Benedictine Ravens, Saturday, October 5, in Atchison,, Kansas.
