The Missouri Valley Men’s basketball team had its first season opener against Hannibal LaGrange at Burns Gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Vikings used an 18-0 run early in the first half to switch a six-point deficit to a 12-point lead thanks to 10 points from senior Jim Thomas (St. Louis, Mo.). The Vikings led by double-digits the rest of the game, and pulled away from Hannibal-LaGrange late in the game for the 17-point victory.  Thomas led the Vikings with 22 points, while sophomore Raviel Burton (St. Johns, Antigua) finished with 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting and seven rebounds.  As a team, the Vikings shot over 45 percent and forced Hannibal-LaGrange into 19 turnovers resulting in 23 Viking points. MVC has a 1-0 record to start the season.

The win was also the 144th of Head Coach Chad Lance’s career, which moved him to the top of the program’s all-time wins list, breaking a tie he had with Grover C. Redford.
