Viking soccer falls to Benedictine in season closerSports

The Missouri Valley College men’s soccer team hosted Benedictine College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference match Wednesday, October 19.  The Vikings played their final regular season home match, falling to the Ravens, 2-1.

Missouri Valley started strong, with Senior Midfielder Alejandro Corella with an assist, resulting in a goal with a shot from Senior Forward George Limbert, giving Missouri Valley a 1-0 lead. A couple minutes later, Junior Forward Slaven Baskalo almost got the Vikings a two points advantage, but his shot was saved by the Benedictine keeper.  The Ravens started to get possession, and tied the score at 1-1.

On the second half, the Senior Forward Rafael Alcaraz tried to break the tie score with a chance on goal, but his shot was saved.  Benedictine scored, getting a 2-1 lead. The Vikings tried to get back to a tie score, with shot on goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second half, but the shot was saved.  Missouri Valley did not get any more chances in the final minutes of the second half, and fell to Benedictine, 2-1.

The loss takes the Vikings to 8-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the conference.  Benedictine improves to 8-3-1 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.
