Dr. William Lombardi was named faculty advisor of Missouri Valley College’s Sigma Tau Delta chapter, Nu Epsilon. He has taken over the task formerly held by Dr. Claire Schmidt, who will now be able to focus solely on her position as Director of the Honors Program.
Lombardi was impressed with the work other faculty advisors around campus were doing, so he decided he “wanted to roll up my sleeves and do my part”. Lombardi, who was appointed at the beginning of this semester, says he “got the job by luck and my own willingness to take on the challenge”.
Lombardi has never been involved in Sigma Tau Delta prior to joining, but has experience in similar groups with prestigious reputations, including the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) and the Western Literature Association (WLA).
“Sigma Tau Delta is an English Honor Society with an international membership” Lombardi said. “It has chapters on campuses around the world, so I consider it a vast network of scholars at various points in their careers.” The group is notable for publishing The Purple Patch, an annual collection of literature and artwork from the MVC community.
Although Lombardi identifies himself as a “facilitator” while members dictate the direction the group goes in, he does plan on looking into other opportunities for the group, including interactions with other groups on campus and other nearby chapters.
“I want to enhance our community, promote service, and have some fun,” Lombardi said. For more information on the group and finding out if you , contact Dr. Lombardi.
