Missouri Valley College Men’s Wrestling team win its annual wrestling invitational. The men’s team came into the meet ranked number two in the latest NAIA wrestling poll. The invitation consisted of many of the top wrestling programs in the country as well as the top five NAIA schools.
The meet was a two day event that included both a championship bracket as well as a consolation bracket. The dual featured many wrestlers ranked in their weight classes as well as all-american wrestlers.
Missouri Valley College finished the meet with 157 team points beating out the number one team in the country, Grandview University. Valley finished with three second place finishers, five third place finishers and a few wrestlers finishing deep in the consolation round finishes.
Mike Machholz, men’s wrestling head coach, said, “ We set the tone Friday by taking 11 of 12 into the second day, with eight eventually reaching the semifinals.”
Machholz went on to say that their main goal for the season is not done. Coach Machholz expressed how his team focus on a couple very tough conference duals next week, including a meeting with number one ranked Grandview University in Des Moines on January 25 as well as dual with Graceland University January 26.
Missouri Valley remains undefeated in conference play this year. With many wrestlers still ranked in their weight classes.
