The Three Rivers College Championship Rodeo took place at the Art Saunders Arena in Sikeston, Missouri, this weekend. As the nearest away rodeo of the year, the women’s team faced seven other squads from across the Southeast, each vying for the championship title.
Betsy Roemer led the women’s team in goat tying. In the long round, Roemer scored 8.3 to tie for sixth, earning her a spot in the short round with five points. In the short round, she scored 8.2, placing third with 40 points and also securing a third-place finish in the average, with an additional 40 points. In total, she amassed 85 points.
In breakaway roping, Sadie Biggs and Kenlie Raby also secured their spots in the short round, scoring points for the team. Biggs scored 3.3 in the first round, tying for second and earning 45 points. She placed sixth in the short round with a 12.7, also earning a sixth-place finish in the average with a cumulative 65 points. Raby scored 3.8 in the first round, placing fifth and earning 20 points.
The women’s team concluded the event in fifth place with 170 points. Pearl River Community College emerged as the champion team, finishing with 485 points and edging out the reigning national champion team, the University of West Alabama, by 15 points.
The Missouri Valley Women’s Rodeo team has two more rodeos this semester. From Nov. 2-4, they will travel to Magnolia, Arkansas, to compete in the Southern Arkansas University College Rodeo.
