Thor’s Pantry, an initiative by Missouri Valley College’s Student Affairs, aims to combat food insecurity among its students. Open to all currently enrolled students, whether full-time or part-time, the pantry is conveniently situated behind MacDonald Hall, adjacent to the Morris Experimental Theater on Redman Street.
Stocked with a variety of items, Thor’s Pantry offers canned goods, beverages, soups, ramen, chips, juice, cereal, and snacks. Additionally, it provides essential cleaning supplies, including laundry detergent, dish soap, cleaning wipes, and spray.
James Rowlett, Director of Student Activities at MoVal, emphasizes the importance of this resource. “Thor’s Pantry exists to tackle food insecurity. Many students are uncertain about their next meal, and we aim to assist them,” he said.
This resource is especially beneficial for students facing financial challenges, offering an alternative to the college’s cafeteria offerings.
MVC student Lauren Bates shared her experience: “There was a time when I was solely responsible for my finances during my studies. Registering for Thor’s Pantry was a significant help. The process is non-judgmental, allowing you to access the resources you need without feeling embarrassed.”
Expanding its support, Thor’s Pantry also provides mini refrigerators and microwaves, available for student rental, further aiding in addressing student needs.
