Basketball Players Giavanna Moore and Jace Lance surpassed the 1,000-point mark in December of 2023.

Both players hope to make more history in their respective basketball programs.

Moore, a two-time first-team All-Conference player, set the new program record for single-game points with 36 points and reached the 1,000-point milestone at a game against William Penn. Moore is the fifth person in the program to join the 1,000-point club.

“When I came to school here,” Moore said. “I never thought ‘I’m gonna be in the thousand point club. I’m gonna hit a thousand.’ I’ve never thought that. I feel accomplished. I feel proud of myself. And then now that I know where I stand with it, I just have set myself with more goals.”

Moore leads the Heart of America Athletic Conference in points per game. She is also second in the conference for most points in the season. She has accumulated almost a thousand and three hundred points in the conference throughout her career. In the first week of December, she was honored as the heart player of the week.

Lance, from the Men’s Basketball team, joined the club in December as well, sitting in 14th place for all-time scoring in the program at the time.

“I knew I was pretty close, but I didn’t know how close,” Lance said. “You know Coach doesn’t really tell us how close we are. A big goal of mine coming here for school was being able to score a thousand points. I was really happy and really proud of myself because I accomplished one of my goals.”

After reaching this milestone, both Moore and Lance hope to make more history at Missouri Valley. Lance wants to finish his career in the top five MVC scorers of all time and Moore hopes to end her career as the Top scorer of all time.

Moore currently stands in second place for most points behind Biology Professor Michelle Reinke.
