Multiple clubs at Missouri Valley College came together to organize a poetry slam for students to participate and watch this past Thursday in the Murrell Library.

Bobby Collins is a part of the MVC Black Student Union. He along with other members helped put together the poetry slam.

Collins said he was very happy with the way this poetry slam turned out. He mentioned how the students always make it so fun and enjoyed the event a lot this year.

Students who attended were entered into a raffle for the chance to win multiple prizes that were given throughout the night. The library staff also gave a gift basket to the winner voted on by them at the end of the event.

Faa Fetai read three poems that she wrote herself. She was voted the winner of the night by the library staff and received a gift basket.

Fetai said, “I had participated in a poetry slam a while ago and really enjoyed it so I thought why not do it again.”

A student who attended to just listen to the poems said she went to the poetry slam in support of her roommate who is also her best friend.

“I am one of her biggest supporters and I really enjoy hearing her writing pieces,” said Jada Fepuleai.

There were several performances by students with a wide variety of poems and genres that were read at the poetry slam.

Everyone who attended wrote down their email addresses and will be sent a link to vote who was the best of the night by students. The library staff and clubs that hosted the poetry slam announced that this was the last one of this school year.
