For some college students, tax season can be overwhelming for others not so much.
Tax season begins at the same time every year. January 29 is the first day people can file individual taxes.
This tax season may have been the first time for many students that they would file taxes. There is a lot that plays into filing taxes that some students may need guidance on. From filing status to figuring out different income calculations, students are just beginners with this process.
James Philips said, “ My parents have filed my taxes for me the last two years.”
There are different ways that students are able to file their taxes. Students can file through a paper form, or through a software program. Each method can have difficulties and things that make it easy. To avoid all confusion, many students’ parents help them or file their taxes for them.
”Filing my taxes is sort of confusing because a lot of the forms they ask for are still new to me so it can be difficult to file them on my own,” Keylaney Gutierrez said.
College is the time when a lot of students get their first jobs or first big source of income. Some students arrive and do not file taxes for some years because they did not have to. The IRS gives different exemptions for different situations. For college students, they can look into what they have to file for and how to do it.
“I have not filed for taxes yet before,” said Dulce Martinez. “I think that next year will be the first time I do so I will probably have my parents help me.”
Tax season ends on April 15th. Those who wanted to file probably have already whether that be students doing it themselves or parents helping out.
