Napping can be seen as lazy and a waste of time by some and a necessity to be able to function by others, who’s to say who’s right and who’s wrong. It could be the difference between a good day and a great day.
Escaping from a busy schedule with a couple of much-earned Z’s is the perspective of Missouri Valley student Zaya Dove.
“If I don’t get at least one hour of sleep in between my classes and practice, you will definitely be able to tell, ” Dove said.
This is largely because sleep is essential for peak performance for everyone and if you fall under the number of hours your body needs it will begin to slowly stop functioning at 100 percent.
Your body is almost like a car. The car needs gas to run and the longer it goes without a fill up the worse the car will perform, and over time the car will begin to break down and be worth much less than it was in prior days. Your body needs sleep as fuel, and over time if you deprive the body of sleep it will begin to function at a much lower level. The difference is in the person though.
Missouri Valley College student Seth Williams said “I don’t need much sleep, what I get at night is cool.”
This is evidence that some people just require more sleep than others. Everybody is different so their needs will obviously vary.
Napping can also boil down to availability.
Missouri Valley student Jabari Collier said, “I would love to nap, but I’m just too busy most days and don’t have time.”
