Summer jobs and internships are a vital part of a college student’s life. They give the opportunity to make money or gain some experience in the field they want to pursue after college, sometimes both.
Braden Tucker is studying sports management and is getting an unpaid internship with class credit with Peak Sports Management for Missouri Western University’s Athletic Department.
“I’m going to basically oversee the sales of sponsorships,” said Tucker. “Seeing how the day-to-day operates. You hear about it in the classroom but don’t know until you actually do it. I’m most excited about seeing if I actually enjoy it. I’ve always loved selling stuff and I’ve been told I’m good at it.”
Cole Deardorff is a junior at Missouri Valley and is studying accounting and finance. He is getting an internship at an accounting firm this summer.
“I’m most excited about actually seeing how accountants do their job and what it is,” said Deardorff. “Seeing if I actually enjoy it or not.”
Another MVC student is planning on getting an internship at an accounting firm in his hometown as well.
“Working at an accounting firm will get me prepared for life after college,” said Luke Brooks.
Students can use apps like Handshake and LinkedIn to look for specific jobs and internships that best suit their wants and needs this summer.
