Every year, the number of online classes is increasing at Missouri Valley College, giving students a way to get credits without physically going to class.
For students, it presents some advantages: They don’t have to go to class and can do their homework whenever they want before the due date, getting the same number of credits as face to face classes.
“We have less classes scheduled each day, so we have more free time,” MVC student Bogdan Zakharov said. “I’d rather sleep an hour longer than go to class.”
However, there are also some disadvantages with these online classes. Being autonomous is not easy for all students. Some may forget to do some homework due to a lack of organization or because they are misusing the online site.
“At the beginning, I didn’t know where to find the assessments and I missed an assignment,” MVC student Thomas Desgris said. “I didn’t know when the assignment was due.”
It can also be harder to contact the professor of an online class.
“I had an issue with an assignment, I couldn’t go in the professor’s office,” MVC student Axel Duclos said. “I sent a mail but his answer didn’t really help me.”
