Professors leave an impact on students in so many ways and the students of Missouri Valley College explain why some of their professors have made their MVC experience better.
Ashtyn Doran, General Biology and Forensic Science major, has had amazing experiences with Professor Karen Reeter. Reeter has impacted Doran in so many ways and has made her time here at Valley much better.
“She has the best input and always makes class fun,” Doran said.
Doran says Professor Reeter always ensures that her students are okay and she listens to what they have to say.
“Sometimes in class we talk about campus life and just how it’s like to be a student,” Doran said. “It feels amazing to talk to professors about how school is going and to ask questions.”
Professor Reeter will always make you feel comfortable and important no matter who you are.
Dr. Thomas Rowland is an English professor that has also impacted many students. He takes the time to connect with his students and ensures that nobody feels excluded.
Carter McCourt is a student of Rowland has always had good encounters with him. McCourt really connects with this professor because Rowland makes the time to connect with him.
“Rowland is a great professor who is always willing to reach out to a student who needs help,” McCourt said. “He works to make sure his students grasp the subjects he teaches.”
Graduate student, Morgan Middleton, wouldn’t be here at Valley if it wasn’t for Professor Jennifer Livengood.
“She tells you things you don’t want to hear, but you need to hear,” Middleton said. “If it wasn’t for her, I would’ve been a college drop out.”
Middleton didn’t see the potential she had but Livengood did and it changed Middleton’s perspective. Now, she’s graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is working towards her Master’s degree.
A common occurrence in impactful professors is enabling students to feel heard. Doran, McCourt, and Middleton have all had experiences with professors that listen to their students and understand things from their perspective and that’s made their time here at Missouri Valley much better.
Professor’s have the power to make or break a student’s experience at Valley and it’s important for students to find professors they connect with and build a solid relationship with them.
