Missouri Valley College eSports Rocket League team competed in the Heart of America Championship but fell short in the final against St. Ambrose Losing 4-1. The Vikings as the number three seed first played number two seed Central Methodist in the semi final winning a best of seven series 4-2.
The team opened up their season in the beginning of february as they swept Graceland and Clarke in two five game series. Sophomore Dominic Hoskins led these two games with 10 goals and 12 assists total.
“The season went very well in my opinion,” Hoskins said. “We did fall short in the Championship but we have a lot to be proud of and I am excited for next season.”
The Vikings participated in the first rocket league games played in the Heart of America History. Along with the season opening on a high note, MVC Student-athlete Freshman Benjamin Searle earned Heart Player of the Week award and also is the first in program history to earn a weekly award.
Drew Hawkins was the Coach of Valleys Esports team. Hawkins said he was proud of the team’s accomplishments in the tournament. He said beating Central Methodist who is a rival was an award in itself so he is grateful for the players on his team and their dedication.
Anthony Inzunza earned All Conference Second Team in the Heart Conference as he led the team to the Championship. Inzunza totaled 27 goals, 21 assists, 32 saves and 89 total shots throughout the whole season.
“Earning 2nd Team All Conference means a lot especially because this is my senior year,” he said.
The Vikings Rocket League team closed out their regular season with a 5-2 record. They earned their spot in the first Heart of America Conference Rocket League Tournament making history earning second place in the tournament.
The team will soon be under new Head Coach Ryan Jensen in their upcoming season.
“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter with Missouri Valley College, where we’re not just setting the bar, we’re going to redefine it,” Jensen said in a media release. “Together, we’ll pioneer innovative approaches, setting our eSports program apart as a beacon of excellence and distinction in collegiate gaming as well as academics.”
