Theta-Phi-Alpha continued the annual tradition of Rock-A-Thon. A 48-hour fundraising event for kids in the Appalachian mountains. The event began on April 9 and ended on April 11.
“My favorite part of Rock-A-Thon was just being able to sit out there with my sisters,” said sorority member Noel Nunn-Faron. “I really enjoyed spending time for them and raising money for a good cause.”
This was Faron’s first year and she had the most hours at 32 hours served rocking.
The tradition of the Rock-A-Thon is rocking in chairs for 48 hours nonstop.
Professor Tiffany Bergman helped begin this tradition when she was a freshman.
“When I was a freshman pledging to the local sorority Chi-Zeta which is now Theta-Phi-Alpha we began the Rock-A-Thon” she said. “We began during Homecoming but later realized there was too much going on that week so now it’s in April.”
While the event is designed to help kids, it also serves to bring members of the sorority closer together.
“The best thing is when we listen to music and sing songs and just bond as sisters.” second-year pledge Skyie Fuentes said.
The girls raised about $847 over the 48 hours and are excited to donate it to Camp Friendship. Camp Friendship gives back to children in the Appalachian Mountains and gives supplies like water, clothing, shoes and school supplies to kids in need.
