The science department held a Biology Alumni Reunion to give current students a view of their futures. Missouri Valley Alumni came to campus to give current biology students any advice and information they could.
“The panelists came back specifically to interact with the students and all of them (according to feedback) really enjoyed the experience,’’ Professor Michele Reinke said. “Several students made some network connections.”
The event began at 9 a.m. and there was a session every hour. A lunch break took place at noon and then two more sessions were held after to close out that part of the event.
There were five sessions total that the event consisted of students from biomedical science field, regular medicine and how working in medicine typically occurs, educating future scientists was the third panel where all students could get a broader view on entering any science related topic. Veterinary medicine was the fourth panel. The last was speakers that specialize in conservation biology.
“I really enjoyed the reunion because it gave us students the opportunity to speak to people that are currently going through a career that we are interested in,” biology student Logan Cunningham said.
There was a dinner organized for the alumni later that day in the Malcom Center. This was another time that people could go and talk to the alumni along with staff and faculty.
“I was really just glad to be any help I could to the current students who are in the position I was once in,” MVC alumna Sarah Mueller said.
The professors in the science department hope to hold another event like this next year but are unsure at the moment if they will.
