The Red Cross has issued a critical need for blood supply and platelets. Donations will help ensure patient care and raise the blood supply for the upcoming seasons.

Campus Nurse Casey Vogelsmeier emphasized the importance of blood donation and how it is greatly needed.

“Blood donation not only saves just one life but can save up to three lives. Every day in the United States, 29,000 units of blood are needed,” Vogelsmeier said

In the press release the Red Cross added: “A steady increase in lifesaving blood products is vital to ensuring hospitals stay ready for any situation this fall.”

They have also given an incentive anyone who donates now through September 30 will receive a fifteen-dollar gift card to a place of their choice.

Nursing student Logan Gosney gives blood often and is hopeful that people continue to give blood.

“As a CNA and Phlebotomist, I know that there is a constant need for blood I hope that people see this critical need and act on it. It is crucial that we get donations,” Gosney said
