The Marshall High School anatomy and physiology class will host a blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 11th in the Big Gym. MHS is inviting everyone to come and hopes that some MVC students and staff will make an appearance.
Teresa Franklin, MHS science teacher and faculty supervisor for the event, has been doing this blood drive for 10 years.
“This is my tenth blood drive, but the school has been doing this for a long time,” she said. “It’s a great learning experience for the A&P students. They’re learning about the body and then they get hands-on experience, and do some community service.”
MHS Student Lily Staley has helped run the blood drive in the past and found it to be rewarding,
“It’s really cool to be a part of something like that as a kid, it makes you feel important,” she said
Franklin explained that their goal is 200 units of blood and they normally get that or more. Recently she went and accepted an award for having the most donations out of the KC schools area.
MVC student Meghan Ansani is open to the idea of giving blood, but noted the timing makes it difficult.
“I’ve never done it unless I have to, but if it wasn’t during our spring break I might consider it,” she said
The blood drive is located at Marshall High School 805 S Miami Ave. To make an appointment for donation visit savealifenow.org/group and enter the group code VM
