Many students have come together to bring the Sigma Nu fraternity back to the Missouri Valley College campus.
While the fraternity is still in its early stages, meetings and signatures have brought this dormant chapter possibly back to life.
Student Logan Holt is one of the advocates for Sigma Nu.
“I want to bring student life back to the school and bring people together to make it a much more enjoyable experience for everyone,” Holt said. “I think that the fraternity environment is important because it gives a lot of people a purpose in Marshall. We can become helpers and that will carry on when we leave.”
According to Sigmanu.org, Sigma Nu’s mission is to “To develop ethical leaders inspired by the principles of love, honor and truth.”
Sophomore Michael Wissman is also getting involved in the process.
“I want to start Sigma Nu to help boost student life around campus and bring new excitement the campus hasn’t seen for a few years,” he said. “I think it is important because we can grow and develop as a group outside of our sport.”
Mac McNeilly the director of expansion for Sigma Nu recognized the potential for a future Sigma Nu on campus.
“The Beta Gamma Chapter of Sigma Nu remains dormant at Missouri Valley, but we continue to engage in discussions with college officials and alumni leadership about the potential for a future return,” he said.
Sigma Nu has a deep history at MVC. It began in 1891 and closed shortly after in 1896, but was then brought back in 1931 and continued all the way until 2013. The fraternity has laid dormant since then. If you’re interested in learning more about Sigma Nu you can go to https://www.sigmanu.org/
