The Missouri Valley College Student Nurse Association is holding a breakfast fundraiser and silent auction on April 6 to memorialize a beloved past member of the Marshall community, Haley Browning. All of the money raised will be donated to the Children’s Mercy Pediatric Oncology departments in Kansas City.

The breakfast is being held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Marshall.

Haley Browning was a young girl who passed away from adrenal gland cancer in 2017. Browning was a passionate member of the non-profit organization 4-H, where she showed rabbits. Browning also had a passion for shooting sports and was an active member of the St. Peter Catholic Church.

Tonya Eddy, the faculty advisor of the Student Nurse Association, said: “She [Haley] wanted to make a difference for others.”

The Brownings have been a very involved family within the Marshall community.

“Dorrian, the mother, was the leader of one of the local 4-H clubs… the family has run one of the grain companies right outside of town for two to three generations,” said Eddy.

Haley’s siblings also show sheep, goats and rabbits to carry on Haley’s passion for showing animals. Haley also had a frequent presence at the Missouri Valley College School of Nursing department, as two of her aunts were faculty members.

Since 2017, the breakfast has become an annual event that is meant to help others in need and to remember Haley. According to Eddy, the event typically has around 200 people in attendance. The Student Nurse Association hopes to exceed that number.
