The Missouri Valley College dance team will be hosting a tryout on May 3, preceded by a clinic on May 2. In the clinic, students will learn the tryout material and get hands-on experience with coach Kristen Revis.
Revis is expecting great things from this new upcoming season.
“I am looking forward to next season and where the dance team program is heading,” she said. “We have a great group of dancers coming in who are new to Missouri Valley, returning to the team for another season and current students joining the team.”
Revis predicted success during the upcoming season.
“It is going to be a great season and I look forward to growing the program, strengthening team unity and having a successful season during all performances, including game day, competition and special events,” Revis said. “Together, through hard work and dedication, we will achieve great things.”
She also shared what kind of things she will be expecting at the tryouts.
“Hard work and positivity first and foremost,” Revis said. “After this, I am looking for technical skills such as turns, leaps, kicks, strong pom motions and energy. Even if a dancer does not have a skill perfectly, these are things that we can work on during practice. I want to see that they are willing to try and give it their best shot.”
Dance captain Kinzie LeMasters is excited for the new year.
“I am really looking forward to a new year on the dance team,” LeMasters said. “I have been given the amazing opportunity to be captain next season, which is so exciting and I’m grateful that I am trusted with the position.”
She also shared some words of advice for incoming dancers on the team.
“Do not be afraid to ask questions and make mistakes,” she said. “Mistakes can create a lot of growth. Always remember to smile and just have fun. This sport is supposed to be fun.”
Veteran dancer Ty Billingsley is also excited to see the fresh faces and new talent.
“It’s always inspiring to witness fresh faces bringing new energy, creativity, and ideas to the table,” she said. “There’s something special about seeing people with passion and ambition step into new opportunities, ready to make an impact. The future looks bright.”
Revis explained that the time commitment varies depending on whether you are on both gameday and the competition team or just one. She also emphasized the need to have fun.
Revis was announced as the new coach in January. She formerly coached at Lindenwood University and other high school teams.
