Missouri Valley College students have a unique opportunity to witness history come to life at the Murrell Library and Academic Support Center on Monday, April 21, at 1:00 p.m.

The library will welcome author and historian Dorinda Makanaonalani Nicholson for a compelling presentation on her family’s personal experience during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Through her storytelling, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of the history, heritage, and human impact of December 7, 1941. Her insights will offer a powerful and personal connection to an event that shaped the modern world.

“When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, my family was terrified and didn’t expect more of the Japanese planes to invade Hawaii,” Nicholson said.

This special event is open to all MVC students and faculty and is an excellent opportunity for history enthusiasts, storytellers, and lifelong learners alike. Whether you have a deep passion for history or simply enjoy hearing eventful stories, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

“Everyone should come and hear the tragic events of Pearl Harbor that affected America,” said Samantha Perkins, Assistant Dean of Library & Academic Support Services.

Charlie Guthrie, a local history buff, also said the presentation will be a good opportunity for people to learn and hear a good story about a tragic, devastating event that affected America and that made America stronger with unity and determination.
