Missouri Valley College is in the works of establishing a women’s flag football team on campus next school year. Women can find the interest form in their MoVal email.
Valley students are working hand in hand with Scott Queen to create this sport here at MVC on a competitive level. This team would likely have spring games against teams like Baker, Graceland and Saint Mary University, just to name a few.
Marcelina Luke, one of the lead students aiming to get this team off the ground, is interested in recruiting from outside the college while also bringing in current MVC students; even students who have never played.
“I always love when girls who have never played the sport are interested in playing because that means we are doing our job,” she said. “That means we are getting girls out of their comfort zone to actually do a sport that is viewed as a ‘mens’ sport.”
With the addition of flag football as a women’s sport it can allow for another activity that students can find their calling here on campus, Student Government President, Kloee Mills said.
“Honestly women’s flag football being added next year is amazing for our school,” she said. “It sounds like a good opportunity for people that haven’t found their home on campus yet.”
This team will be a great opportunity for people to stay active in their slower seasons or for people interested in being dual sport athletes, student Aurora Berry said.
“I wanna play because I’ve always been a more active multi-sport person,” she said. “I haven’t played flag football as a sport but I used to for fun.”
There are still steps that have yet to be reached in the process of bringing a new sport here to MVC. More information will be released later and if you have any questions email lukem@moval.edu.
