Missouri Valley College students gathered in the Malcom Building last Thursday night to play volleyball, featuring a prize of $100 for the winning team.
The event kicked off at 7:30 P.m. and drew many people interested in competing with their friends to win $100 and bragging rights. For those that didn’t take the top spot, the event still had something to offer.
“We didn’t win, but we had a lot of fun,” said Jadwin Farington, a freshman whose team was eliminated in the semifinals. “Some of our teammates couldn’t play due to their coach, but we came out here to have fun and we played hard.”
The event even provided something for players who never took to the court to play.
“It was so cool to see everyone come together,” said Andres Lopez, a Junior who came just to watch his friends play. “Even though I didn’t play, I felt like I was part of my friend’s defeat. With all the commotion in the gym, laughing and cheering, it was pretty cool.”
Of course, with any sporting event there are winners and losers. For the winning team, victory did not come easy.
“We really had to push ourselves in those last few points,” said Jean Russell, a sophomore whose team won the event. “The energy from everyone watching us was wild, it helped us pull through. Honestly, this was a good event and on top of all of it I got to win.”
