The band at Missouri Valley College is on its way back to campus next fall. Eddie Carr, Band Director, and Kristen Revis, Dance Coach, are looking for current and incoming students to join next school year.
They will be holding an informational meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, in the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning in Murrell Library & Academic Support Center.
They are looking for several positions:
- Pianists/ Drummers/ Guitarists
- Brass/Wind Instrumentalists
- Twilers/ Color Guard/ “Back-up” Dancers
- Vocalists
There are going to be plenty of options available to get involved with the band. Revis wants to make sure that is possible,
“If you don’t play an instrument, sing, twirl, dance, or do color guard and want to be involved in something, I’ll figure out a way,” she said. “It may not be a lead role, maybe it’ll be marketing or even backstage.”
With the band gearing back up and looking for new members, students understand the changes that could bring for school events.
“I think it would be great to bring the band back,” Sophomore student Dulce Martinez said. “A well-supported band, especially a marching band, could really change the energy at games and events.”
The band will be involved with game days for football, basketball, and more. However, that is not the only place Valley will utilize the pep band, Revis said.
“Yeah, we want them to be involved with convocation, welcome week, and valley experience,” she said. “Also at community events where they have a chance to perform.”
