As the academic year winds down at Missouri Valley College, students are reflecting on the classes that made a lasting impression. For some, it wasn’t just the subject—it was the experience inside the classroom that stood out.

Maria Slaughter pointed to Bobby Collins’s Writing for Broadcast class as her favorite. What set it apart, she said, was the way Collins engaged with students and made the classroom feel like a safe place to learn.

Jaime Alvarez had a different pick. He named Phil Gresham’s graphic design brand class, citing its connection to his major and his goal of becoming a graphic designer.

But Bobby Collins’s classes came up again. My’kel Rachel said Media and Culture topped his list, largely because of the insights it offered into how media has evolved and the opportunities it gave him to be more active in class.

Harrison James also singled out Writing for Broadcast. He described it as “complex fun,” a space where students could exchange ideas freely—something he especially enjoyed.
