Missouri Valley College is adding a new beat to campus life this fall with the launch of a pep band. Led by veteran recruiter Eddie Carr, the group is set to bring energy, music and spirit to football and basketball games, as well as other events throughout the year.

Carr, who previously worked at Culver-Stockton College and Maryville University, said he hopes to make the band a fixture on campus and in the Marshall community.

“I’m excited to be at Missouri Valley and contribute to the campus experience,” Carr said. “We will be a musical, theatrical crew that brings something extra to football and basketball games and other special events. There is a lot of interest in the community and throughout Missouri.”

The band is still in its early stages, with nine members so far. Carr said his long-term vision is much bigger: a group of 40 to 60 musicians, including singers and horns.

“This year we want to grow as much as we can,” he said. “I want to add a rock band and a jazz band next school year, and the ultimate goal is to build a marching band.”

Students on campus are already voicing support. James Olson said he looks forward to seeing the group grow.

“For sure, I wouldn’t mind joining,” Olson said. “I would let other people know about the band as well.”

Fellow student Xavier Ellis agreed. “Yes, I would definitely support and join if it comes to a certain point,” he said.

With strong leadership and growing interest, MVC’s pep band looks poised to hit the right note as a new tradition for Viking athletics.
