MOBIUS has been a key part of Missouri Valley College’s library circulation program for years, linking MVC with colleges across Missouri and neighboring states. Now, one of MVC’s library leaders is stepping into a new role within the consortium.
Samantha Perkins, dean of Library and Academic Support Services, has been elected vice president of MOBIUS. Perkins previously served on the MOBIUS board of directors for a year before being asked to move into the vice president position.
“Our former president actually ended up taking a job in June outside of our consortium, so he could no longer serve in his role,” Perkins said. “Our vice president stepped up to the president’s role, and he gave me a call over the summer and asked if I was willing to accept the challenge of becoming vice president.”
Perkins said the position, much like her role as dean, carries greater responsibility.
“I meet with more committees now,” she said. “I have a little bit more of a leadership role with that, and really, I’m going to take this year and learn from our current president to set me up for success.”
Other MVC library staff have also contributed to MOBIUS leadership. Bathsheba Love, research and circulation coordinator, has served in multiple roles, including Digitization Chair and Circulation Chair.
“I talked about what it was like for everyone in circulation—getting books between different libraries, seeing what the rules were,” Love said. “Also working with patron records, creating records, uploading records, making sure we had confidentiality rules, and working on bylaws. It entailed a lot.”
