Greek life at Missouri Valley College has been stagnant for years. With one sorority and one fraternity, students have been longing for something more.
Recently, a revival has been in the works. With Sigma Nu returning in the spring semester, Tau Kappa Epsilon hosting several events, and Theta Phi Alpha holding fall recruitment, things are looking up for the Greek community at Valley.
On Sept. 30, Alpha Sigma Alpha hosted an interest session and presentation for women on campus. ASA previously had a chapter at Missouri Valley College.
Many students have expressed interest in Greek life if the school offered more options.
“If the school had a bigger variety of Greek life or even Divine Nine organizations, I would definitely join. My mentor is in Greek life, and I was inspired to look into it. I also grew up with a father who is an alumnus of a Divine Nine organization, as are many of my family members. It was pretty sad for me to come from a long line of Divine Nine Greeks and see that there’s only one sorority that is predominantly white,” said third-year student Naomi Curry.
First-year student Kennedy Pittman said she wants more Greek life opportunities for the sense of community.
“I would want to be a part of the community more and make new friends and learn more leadership skills. All around, it would be good to connect with people,” she said.
Theta Phi Alpha member Jayden Buglovsky emphasized how important Greek life is for students.
“Greek life is important for students because it gives you so many chances to grow as a leader, get involved on campus, and make a real-life difference through philanthropy. It’s about being a part of something bigger than yourself,” Buglovsky said.
