Missouri Valley College recently hosted a Flu and COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic, open to students, faculty, staff, and the local community. The clinic, provided by the Saline County Health Department, offered Flu shots costing $35 for adults and $75 for seniors over the age of 65. Most insurance plans were accepted. COVID-19 vaccines cost $115 without insurance but were covered for those 65 and older and employees with the vaccine requirement.

Lisa Thomas of the Saline County Health Department said the goal of the on-campus clinic was convenience and accessibility.

“It makes it very convenient for students and especially if they don’t have transportation and while we’re doing it for everybody else” Said Thomas “it’s open for the public and it’s very fast as well and Anybody is eligible for the vaccines and 6 months or older is for Covid and under 65 you have to have an overview. We’ve had several students get them today to get their shots and for their clinics and nursing students as well.”

Karen Meyer, also with the Saline County Health Department, emphasized safety and proper storage procedures.

“We make sure the vaccines are safe and we get it in the cold and it’s shipped cold and it’s refrigerated and not to mention we have electric coolers. Some good steps that should be taken to get the vaccines are advertising it to others” Said Keyer “as well as like we’re doing right now and emails that get to everyone and this helps with the students so it ensures them to participate in getting the vaccine.”

Missouri Valley nursing student Maddy Mills said the clinic made it easy to stay on top of her requirements.

“This is definitely an advantage for me because I need my flu shot for Nursing school and it’s right. I didn’t have to go anywhere far and it was easy” Said Mills “I don’t really care about getting shots and it hurts a little bit but it’s fine.”
