It’s been years since Missouri Valley College lit up the night with a campus bonfire on October 24. This year’s event brought students, alumni, and the community together for an evening of music, fire, and fun. The event featured live music, a pep rally and a food truck. Firefighters were on site helping to light the fire and keep the night safe.

“It was really fun watching it and having everyone together, I never saw how big the fire was the first time,” said freshman Andrej Jovasevic.

Fellow freshman Lazar Zivkovic also said he enjoyed the bonfire.

“When they got the fire ready and the firefighters lit it, it was pretty cool to see,” he said. “Especially when everyone was dancing and hitting each other with the white glow up things in the dark and listening to the music.”

Some students felt it brought a sense of safety to the campus, like sophomore Olivia Cox.

“I think it helps bring the students together as one,” Cox said. “As well as it shows it’s a safe environment for students on campus.”

Senior Ellie Gutcher would love to see another bonfire.

“Yes of course I would love it if they did another one,” Gutcher said. “It was pretty cool to see and watch everyone gather together.”

The Viking Blaze wrapped up with strong student participation and positive feedback from attendees. Many said the event was a great way to connect with friends and take a break from classes. Students expressed hope that similar gatherings will continue in the future.
