As October wrapped up, MVC student-athletes and coaches marked Halloween while staying focused on their seasons. Although classes continued as usual, many still found time to celebrate. Many teams found creative ways to join in the fun together.
Several MVC teams held Halloween-themed practices, showing up in costume. The women’s volleyball team enthusiastically celebrated by having a practice in costumes, playing Peru State on Halloween, and asking fans to wear costumes.
Juliana Oliveira, a senior women’s volleyball player, said, “Practices can be intense, so having a day where we get to dress up, laugh, and see everyone’s personality in a different way is extremely special.”
Oliveira believes that playful activities like these, which encourage players to express themselves, build team chemistry, and togetherness, “The team feels more like a family than just a group of girls,” she said.
The softball and baseball teams also celebrated with a Halloween-themed kickball game. While the baseball team is in its pre-season, the softball team is currently in its regular season.
Alexis Bower, a freshman softball player, said she enjoys the holiday and loved celebrating with her teammates and the rest of the school.
“I love celebrating Halloween with my teammates,” Bower said. “I think it’s fun wearing costumes… it keeps the team close together.”
Other teams celebrated Halloween, such as Wrestling and Women’s Volleyball. From seniors to freshmen, the holiday allowed student-athletes to be creative and create tighter bonds with their teammates.
