Course evaluations give Missouri Valley College professors feedback on their teaching, but some students say they do not always complete them carefully.
At the end of each semester, students fill out anonymous online evaluations for each professor. The surveys ask about teaching style, assignments and how professors interact with students. The results help professors improve their classes and provide the college with data for faculty evaluations.
Some students said the length of the surveys can lead to rushed answers.
“I feel like the surveys are too long, and people are trying to do other things and move on with their life,” said Isaiah Thomas. “Even though it’s long, I still do my best because they deserve the truth.”
Andres Morano, a senior, said time can affect how thoroughly students respond.
“I feel like the surveys are important, but sometimes I feel like I’m in a rush to get it done so I don’t fill them out to my full potential,” Morano said.
Professor Liam Kahmeyer said the evaluations are an important way for students to share feedback.
“They are definitely important. The students have to have a way to let professors know how they are doing,” Kahmeyer said.
Both students and professors said the evaluations are valuable, but their impact depends on how much effort students put into their responses.
