Missouri Valley College students expressed mixed awareness and strong opinions on rising tensions involving Iran, reflecting varying levels of engagement with global issues.
Some students admit they are unaware of global politics.
Karen Arredondo, a student from Colombia, says she has little knowledge of the situation going on.
“I don’t know anything about the conflict between the USA and other countries. I didn’t hear anything about it.” She said
Other students have expressed more defined views on the issue. Jayden Franklin, who follows politics closely, questions the motivation behind the conflict.
“ I think it’s just an excuse to go to war. We’ve seen these things in the past, and it’s just repeating itself,” said Franklin.
Franklin also added that even though he consumes news regularly through online platforms, he hasn’t followed the Iran situation as much as he thinks he should.
International student, Smangaliso Ntuli, gave a more global perspective, specifically around his future travel concerns and questions towards political ideas.
“It’s politics, man. Politics always have ego. We don’t actually know the full story; it’s just people with power who want more power,” said Ntuli.
emphasizing how this conflict can affect the country he wants to travel to. His travel plans to Dubai are affected by the conflict between these nations, adding that he has difficulty determining whether the actions of the military are justifiable, stating that he can’t give his full argument since he doesn’t have enough information on the situation.
Uncertainty and limited awareness remain common, driven by a lack of information and the complexity of global politics. While knowledge is limited, students acknowledge concerns about escalation, global involvement, and the influence of political power.
