As Easter approaches, Missouri Valley College Students are preparing themselves for the three-day weekend, with travel, relaxation, and time with family.
For some students, this easter break is a chance to return home and spend time with their family. Moval student Rylee Adams said,
“ My plan for Easter is to go to both sides of my family’s Easter on Sunday and also church in the morning.”
She states that a big part of Easter is her family activities, they do from church to dying eggs with her grandmother. She also finds the church services to be her favorite activity during the holiday.
While some students are spending time with their families, other students are stuck in Marshall, Missouri, for the holiday weekend. Malakai, a volleyball player at Missouri Valley College, is staying on campus for the holiday weekend.
“ I’m not doing anything. I’m probably gonna stay in Marshall,” said Malakia.
He states he isn’t sure what he is gonna do in Marshall, but he will be spending his time here over the weekend.
For some students, Easter has specific traditions in their culture. Danica Velickovic, a student from Serbia, explains the traditions they take part in during Easter Sunday.
“One of our traditions, instead of saying happy Easter, we say ‘Jesus has risen. ‘ And then the person who didn’t say it will say “Indeed he did,” said Velickovic.
Not only is the saying a part of her tradition, but the eggs are important too. Having fun with the family in the process.
“The first thing we do in the morning is dye our eggs with our family members. Once you’re done, you will crack the egg, and whoever has the strongest crack basically wins,” said Velickovic.
Easter tradition remains important to many students on Missouri Valley’s campus. From traditions, family gatherings, or just plain old relaxation. Easter weekend is a short but meaningful pause in the academic schedule. Giving students a break from daily routines and a reset before the semester continues.
