MoValley Instrumental Bands Prepare for Spring Concert

By Austin Bohlen/Delta Staff Writer

The Missouri Valley College Jazz and Concert Bands will have a Spring Instrumental Concert in mid-April, a performance the students have been working towards since the beginning of the semester.

The Spring Instrumental Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 15 in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.

The concert will feature duets and trios from performers from both the jazz and concert bands. The instrumentalists involved received their music the first day of the semester and have been rehearsing for several hours each week in preparation for the event.

Mickey Hackman, a flutist for the band, spoke about the significance of instrumental music and the upcoming performance.

“I would say it is pretty important to me, I started band when I was in sixth grade,” Hackman said. “When I started high school I wanted to play at a college band, so it’s kind of like that ultimate band goal that I’ve had.”

The concert will be held in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre and is open to Missouri Valley’s students and faculty with limits on the number of people that can attend. Family members of the performers won’t be able to attend the concert, but can still watch the live stream of the performance.

Alexandros Fragiskatos, an assistant professor of Instrumental Music, spoke on the significance of live streaming the concert.

“Not only is live stream important especially during this time we can’t have the kind of full audience that we are accustomed to,” Fragiskatos said. “But live streaming is such an important tool to allow people who normally can’t see performances, or can’t go somewhere, or who would have to travel such a far distance to see a performance.”
