Joao Vitor Bonanoni and Maria Lopez were crowned Homecoming king and queen at Saturday’s football game.

“It was really nice to receive the award and to see that people kind of like liked me and showed me support, so I was really happy to receive the award,” Bonanoni said.
Lopez said she was surprised she won and thought another candidate was going to win.
Both court winners are international students, Bonanoni being from Brazil and Lopez being from Spain. Homecoming coronation is a new tradition for them, something they do not have back at home.
“Wow, this is crazy because this is not normal in my country,” Lopez said.
They both said winning homecoming king and queen was something like you see in the movies.
Although they do not have any responsibilities or duties being Homecoming king and queen, Bonanoni said he feels responsible to represent the college in the best way possible, whether it be at athletic events or in academics.
Bonanoni and Lopez are seniors, graduating with a degree in mass communications. Bonanoni is on the men’s volleyball team and Lopez is on the women’s volleyball team.
