As finals week approaches, Missouri Valley College students are preparing in different ways, with some studying for exams and others focusing on final projects.
Students said they have strong preferences for which format better reflects their learning.
Freshman Gabbie White said she prefers final projects, noting that exams can be stressful because they cover a large amount of material.
“It is hard to study everything you have learned over the past four months,” White said.
White said projects allow more time to complete assignments.
Sophomore Addison Bartlett said she prefers final exams because they are more straightforward and fair, with clear right and wrong answers that require students to study the material closely.
Freshman Kennedy Omey also said she prefers final projects because they allow more flexibility.
“I learn more from projects because I typically get to pick something I am interested in,” Omey said.
Omey said projects are a better way for students to demonstrate their knowledge.
Students said both exams and projects measure learning in different ways as the semester comes to a close.
